Weather in Costa Rica

The weather in Costa Rica because of the proximity to the equator would be classified as tropical.  There are two seasons in Costa Rica, summer and green.  Summer typically starts in December and runs through April.  Green seasons runs from May through November.  In the summer you can expect very little rain throughout the country.  The highest temperatures during the year will be from February through April.  During green or rainy season, daily rainfalls, sometimes heavy are common.  Typically the heaviest rains are in September and October.  This is also the time of year to expect the coolest temperatures.  Because Costa Rica is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Caribbean side typically has the opposite season as the Pacific side.  The Pacific Ring of Fire is a horse shoe shapes area that runs along the entire Pacific region where volcanoes are present and this is one of the main reasons for the opposing seasons.  Costa Rica is about 10 degrees North latitude so it is very close to the equator.  This means that the amount of sunlight per day doesn't very much.  Sunrise is typically around 5:30am and sets around 5:45pm.  The average temperatures for Costa Rica throughout the year is between 80-60 degrees.  The coastal regions can be much warmer than this at times reaching into the mid 90's during summer.  When traveling to Costa Rica, it's a good idea to pack for a little bit of everything.  Pura Vida!

Green Season in Costa Rica!

Green Season is also know as rainy season, but being a very positive person in the travel business, don't want to through any negativity around.  One thing about Green Season is that there is a good possibility that in the morning to early afternoon it will be beautiful and then the clouds will roll in.  The weather in Costa Rica definitely reminds me of a Florida summer for those of you who have experienced that.  The rain is what keeps everything so green in Costa Rica so I'll take it.

Sun protection is a must in Costa Rica.  The UV index down here is at least two times stronger than most cities.  Don't be fooled by the temperature or the clouds, that burn will sneak up on you quickly.  Apply sunscreen regularly or where sun protective clothing.  Speaking of sunscreen, the folks over at Raw Botanicals are my absolute favorite.  They are a 19 year old company, born in Costa Rica. They produce high quality, 100% organic amenities and cosmetics that are used by individuals, spas, and salons around the world.  They're also dedicated to making the world a better place by changing the way we all consume body products.  Refills!

I always back a bottle of the Ylang Ylang Protective cream in my beach or fishing bag.  Cool thing about this stuff is that the ingredients are safe for the planet’s delicate coral reef systems.  One more reason to give it a try.  They can ship anywhere so give them a shot to prevent the spot!
