Planning a trip to Costa Rica

I own a travel agency called Cruise Planners and have called Costa Rica my home over the past 4 years.  If you are thinking of planning a trip to Costa Rica, here are a few suggestions:

1.  Allocate at least a week to tour this beauty country.

2.  "Pura Vida" means Pure Life.

3.  Costa Rica has 2 international airports: (SJO) near San Jose and (LIR) near Liberia.

4.  Stop at the Tarcoles Bridge aka the Croc Bridge for a photo opportunity.

5.  Every beach is different so look around and enjoy.

6.  Get a guide for Manuel Antonio National Park.  They will find the needle in the haystack.

7.  It's true...fishing is world class.  Los Suenos and Marina Pez Vela are the most commonly used marinas however there are several smaller ones throughout the Pacific side.

8.  Visit Playa Ballena during whale watching season.  Northern Humpbacks are from December to April and the Southern Humpbacks are from July through November.

9.  Everyone claims to have the "longest" zip lining or canyoning, just do it.  It's amazing! Click here for more info.

10.  Bird watchers paradise.  Costa Rica has over 900 species of birds.

11.  It takes a little while to get to places throughout the country so just be prepared.

12.  Arenal Volcano...it's a real beauty, when you can see it.  Turrialba and Poas Volcano's are closed as of this moment.  Irazu volcano is open.

13.  Adhere to the flag warnings along the beach, they are for your safety.

14.  Great surfing throughout the country.

15.  If you rent a car, get all your driving in before night fall because some of the roads aren't clearly marked.

16.  About 12 hours of daylight everyday.  Sunrise and sunset are around 5:30.
