Seasons in Costa Rica
I reside in an area called Santa Ana which is about 20 minutes West of San Jose, the capital. The weather pattern here typically follows the Pacific pattern. From late November through mid April, this is considered summer or dry season. Very little if any rain happens during this time period so it's clear skies and warmer temperatures. Because of the amazing weather, this is also the peak time for tourism.
On the Caribbean side, because of the multiple volcanoes both active and extinct that separate the country, it will be green season. Green season lasts from May to November. Locals call it green season and not rainy season because the rain is necessary to keep Costa Rica beautiful all year round. Green season is considered low season for tourism however living here for the past 2 1/2 years, it's not a significant drop off. Green season reminds me of a Florida summer. The day starts without a cloud in the sky and then around 3 pm, the storm clouds move in and it rains for a little bit. Now don't get me wrong, some days it rains all day long and even goes for several days, but you learn to live with it and just say Pura Vida!
